Travel dates:

ICCM2001 begins in the morning of Thursday, July 26th and continues through the end of Saturday, July 28th. Therefore, it is best for participants to arrive in the afternoon/evening of July 25th and depart in the morning of July 29th. Participants of the Doctoral Consortium should arrive in the afternoon/evening of the 24th.

Location information:

George Mason University is located in the Virginia outskirts of Washington DC. It has three campuses. ICCM2001 will be held at the main, Fairfax campus, which is located approximately 12 miles (20 km) West-Southwest of Washington DC. The top tourist attractions in the area (and there are a large number of them) are located in DC. They include a large number of museums, the White House, the Capitol building, historical sites, and many monuments. More information on those sites and many others in the area can be found here. We recommend that you come either a day early or a stay a day longer in order to see the sites. It is relatively easy to get to main tourist sites from the conference by taking the CUE bus to the Vienna/GMU metro stop, and then taking the metro to either the L'Enfant or Smithsonian metro stops.

Accommodations:

Dorms. We have reserved a block of 50 single dorm rooms at the rate of $25.50/night. These dorms are located on the main GMU-Fairfax campus, at a 5 min walk from the conference site. Reserve dooms rooms on registration page.

Hotel. We have reserved a block of 60 double rooms at the Fairfax Comfort Inn at the rate of $79/night. We will be providing bus service between this hotel and the conference site. You must contact the hotel directly ((703) 591-5900 or (800) 228-5150) to make your reservations. Just mention that you are part of the George Mason University ICCM group. However, you are welcome to stay at other hotels in the area. The Bailiwick Inn is nice (but expensive) B&B about a 20 minute walk from campus. The Holiday Inn-Fairoaks is a little more expensive/upscale than the Comfort Inn but only slightly farther away. It is also located right next to a large mall. Information on these and other hotels can be found at: http://www.gmu.edu/welcome/hotel.html#FAIRFAX

Airports:

There are three major airports in the Washington DC area. The closer airports (about 30 min drive each) to the GMU-Fairfax campus are Dulles International Airport (airport code IAD) and Regan National Airport (airport code DCA). The cost of a taxi from those two airports to GMU is between $25 and $35. You can also take a Supershuttle (no reservations required) to GMU for ($12-$15). Finally, you can take public transportation. From Dulles, you can take a bus to the metro, and then the metro to the Vienna/GMU stop, and then the CUE bus to GMU-Fairfax. From National, you can catch the metro directly there, and take it to the Vienna/GMU stop, and then the CUE bus to GMU-Fairfax . The third airport is Baltimore/Washington Airport (airport code BWI), and it is much further away (about 80 min drive with no traffic). Sometimes the flights into BWI are by far the cheapest (e.g., sometimes 1/4 the price). But be warned: it is much further away. The taxi ride would be a lot of money. You can take the supershuttle ($40-$50). You can also take public transportation: train to Union Station in DC, metro to Vienna/GMU metro stop, and then the CUE bus to GMU-Fairfax.But note that the train may not run at odd hours.
