The Venue

ICCM-2006 will be hosted at the Stazione Marittima building.

Inaugurated on October 28th 1930, the Stazione Marittima building is one of the greatest works carried out by the architects Umberto Nordio and Giacomo Zammattio. China and Japan, America and Australia, Costantinople and Odessa, as well as the Dalmatian Islands and the cities of Ancona and Venice: these are some of the places where the ships sailing from Trieste and its harbour station landed. And the rooms of which the Stazione Marittima Congress Centre is today consisting are named after these ships, that sailed throughout the world: Vulcania, Saturnia, Oceania.

The conversion of the old harbour station in a modern congress centre was carried out by degrees, but since 1984, after the renovation of the first floor, the building has definitively been used as a congress centre, thus housing conventions, workshops, exhibitions and meetings of any kind and significance. Thanks to the last renovation works of the ground floor premises, carried out in 2002, the Congress Centre is now able to house major exhibitions, as well as many events contemporaneously.

Overlooking the sea and located in the cultural heart of the city, the Stazione Marittima Congress Centre is one of the main historic buildings of the city. Its stateliness is reflected in the vast rooms and exhibition areas that are to be found inside. A double grey marble staircase leads from the entrance to the first floor foyer, which is brightly lit by the enormous glass walls overlooking the charming Gulf of Trieste and which is spacious enough to house large exhibitions of any kind. Equipped with a reception desk and with all the facilities that are necessary in order to ensure the comfort of the congressists, the foyer can also be reached by lift and goods lifts.

All the rooms of the first floor, as well as the balcony and the refreshment area, can be reached from there.
